BLOCKCHAIN-ENABLED TRACEABILITY IN THE RICE SUPPLY CHAIN
A recent publication from the TRACE-RICE project highlights the role of blockchain technology in improving traceability and transparency in agri-food supply chains — with a special focus on the Mediterranean rice sector.
Developed under the TRACE-RICE project, the Portuguese pilot introduced a Rice Field Data Recording App, integrated with blockchain-verified QR codes, enabling traceability from field to fork. Results from the 2023 and 2024 harvests highlight the system’s potential to improve data consistency, enhance consumer trust, and serve as a replicable model for sustainable rice production across the Mediterranean.
